Study Tour of Municipal Climate and Energy Policy in the United Kingdom

Organizing a study tour of renewable energy and climate change policy in the United Kingdom for a
delegation of US municipal representatives in partnership with CDS International and the US Department
of Energy' Solar America Initiative.

Renewable Energy Economic Development Impact Analysis
Client: Confidential
Conducted an assessment of the in-state economic development benefits for a proposed 130 MW wind energy
project, including job impacts, state and county tax revenues, and
landowner payments. Project completed September, 2008.

US Climate Adaptation Policy Research
Client: Confidential
Conducted a survey of federal, state, and local climate change adaptation strategy initiatives on
behalf of a German utility company in partnership with Meister Consulting
Group. Project completed August, 2008.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Feasibility Study
Client: Confidential
Conducted a technical and economic analysis of renewable energy and enegy
efficiency technology options at a supply terminal on behalf of one of the
largest independent energy products distributors in the Northeast US. Project completed March, 2008.

City of Boston Green Affordable Housing Program
Client: City of Boston, Boston, MA
Managed the City of Boston's $2 million Green Affordable Housing Program with a team
of consultants supported by the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative, the City's
Department of Neighborhood Development, and an anonymous foundation. Developed
program structure and materials, organized training programs, and worked with the
affordable housing community to integrate green building, energy efficiency,
renewable energy, and healthy homes strategies into housing developments. The
program will install over 140 kilowatts of photovoltaics on more than 200 units
of affordable housing. Project completed March, 2008.

Sustainable Energy Utility Design Studies
Clients: District Department of Environment and Seoul Development Institute
Surveyed state clean energy fund best practices and governance structures, and reviewed the
feasibility of creating a sustainable energy utilities for the District of Columbia and
for the City of Seoul, South Korea, as part of a Center for Energy and Environmental
Policy team. Project completed April, 2008.

Study Tour of Renewable Energy Workforce Development in Germany
Client: German Ministry of Education and Research
Organized and accompanied a study tour of renewable energy workforce training and development in Germany
for a delegation of US educational professionals in partnership with CDS International and InWEnt gGmbH.
The study tour included visits with German government, industry, and academic organizations, and was
supported by the German Ministry of Education and Research, and the Heinrich Böll Foundation North
America.
Project completed December, 2007.

Wind Turbine Component Survey
Client: Confidential
Conducted a survey of wind turbine and turbine tower manufacturing companies in the United
States on behalf of international clients in cooperation with Hamburg, Germany-based windConsultant.
Project completed May, 2007.

Sustainable Energy Planning for College Campuses
Client: Highland Community College, Freeport, IL
Surveyed strategies for installing sustainable energy technologies on college campuses, and presented
technology and financing options to the administration and to faculty.
Project completed in August 2007.

New York City Solar Energy Policy Research
Client: CUNY Million Solar Roofs Initiative, New York, NY
Conducted a comprehensive survey federal, state, and local policies impacting solar market
development in New York City and created market growth scenarios. Identified financial,
regulatory, and technical barriers to solar energy market growth, and presented policy
recommendations to state and city decision makers. A final report for the project can be found here.
Project completed June 2007.
Also supported the development of the recently passed New York City Property Tax Abatement for
Phovoltaics. PUBLICATIONS

Green Ferry Alternatives
Client: New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, Albany, NY
Completed a technical baseline survey of New York State's ferry fleet, including data on engine
type, fuel usage, duty cycle, hull type, etc. for 126 vessels as part of a study on ferry
technologies. Worked with Capital Energy Solutions and TransTech Marine Company to prepare a
report on green ferry design. Project completed June 2007.

New York City Solar Energy Market Research
Client: City of New York Solar City Partnership, New York, NY
Updated a survey of New York City solar energy market and inventoried installed PV capacity
citywide. Developed market growth scenarios and surveyed the economic, environmental, and
social benefits of large-scale PV development. A summary of the 2007 market update is published
in the September/October 2007 issue of Renewable Energy Focus magazine, and the original market report
can be found here. Project completed January 2007.

Solar Energy Industry Strategy and Research
Client: Confidential
Investigated international and domestic solar energy industry structure, profitability, and
trends on behalf of a $2 billion building products manufacturing company. Explored different
strategies for market entry on behalf of management. Project completed December 2006.

Study Tour of Renewable Energy and Economic Development in the US and Germany
Client: German Foreign Office
Organized and accompanied a study tour of German renewable energy policy and markets for a
delegation of US state legislators, state energy regulators, and local energy officials in
partnership with CDS International, Inc. and InWEnt gGmbH. The tour was supported by German
Foreign Office and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. Project completed December 2006.

Investigating the Cost, Liability and Reliability of Anti-idling Equipment for Trucks
Client: Delaware Department of Transportation
Worked with the Center for Energy and Environmental Policy at the University of Delaware to
research anti-idling technologies for long-haul trucks and identify policy best practices for
reducing air emissions from truck idling. Project completed in November 2006.

Solar Refrigeration Study
Client: Confidential
Conducted research on the solar refrigeration market, and worked with Capital Energy
Solutions to develop a business strategy for a commercial-scale, solar-powered
refrigeration unit. Project completed August, 2005.

Renewable Energy Industry Strategy and Research
Client: Confidential
Led team of consultants researching biomass energy technology opportunities on behalf of a $2.2
billion holding company. Surveyed regulatory risks, market structure, and policy incentives and
made investment recommendations to management. Conducted research on market trends and policy
drivers for the wind energy, green power marketing, and photovoltaic industries. Project
completed August 2005.

Wind Energy Technical Translations
Client: Various, Germany
Translated German wind energy books and articles into English. Work includes portions of the
Wind Power Plants textbook by Robert Gasch and Jochen Twele, the multimedia CD-ROM, Wind
energy knowledge: Insights and outlook, published by the BundesVerband WindEnergie, and
articles and reports by private and public sector organizations, including the World Wind
Energy Association and DYNAMiX. Project completed July 2003.
